Steven Gerard Chavez, age 60, passed away Saturday, June 8, 2019. He was a loving husband, father and brother to his wife Gloria Chavez; his daughters, Amber and Kirsten; brother, Johnny Ray Chavez; and sister, Georgia Barreras. Steven was born on September 25, 1958 in Santa Fe, New Mexico to Ray and Ernestine Chavez. He graduated from Belen High School, class of 1976. As a journeyman pipefitter, he was employed by many plumbing and mechanical companies, including Yearout Mechanical. His final employment was with the University of New Mexico. Steven had many hobbies and interests including playing with his dogs, Koda, Taz and Nikki. He loved to help people and loved to laugh. Steven was a member of Legacy church. He always looked forward to dressing up and going to church to serve. His favorite music station was 89.1. He would dedicate a song every week to his family. He enjoyed gardening and planting chili. He loved cooking! His specialties included ridiculously hot red chili, posole, beans, and tostadas. Steven enjoyed deep sea fishing, camping, cleaning his yard, watching his Raiders play football, watching baseball, along with watching the hunting and the fishing channels on TV. He played baseball and softball when he was younger. Steven also loved being around his family. Steven was a great father and husband. Steven will be greatly missed and will forever be in our hearts.
Steven was preceded in death by his parents Ray and Ernestine Chavez. He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Gloria Jean Chavez; his daughters, Amber and Kirsten Chavez; his siblings, Johnny Ray Chavez and Georgia Barreras.
Services will be held on Wednesday, June 19, 2019, 10:00 a.m. at Legacy Church, 4701 Wyoming Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, New Mexico, with Pastor Tony Ramirez officiating.
