Alfonso Vigil

Alfonso  Vigil, age 93, a resident of Albuquerque and formerly of Pilar and Penasco, NM, went to join the Lord and his beloved cherished wife of 65 years Minnie L. vigil; he passed away at his home peacefully Friday, October 9, 2015.  Alfonso was raised within farming communities and loved to spend as much time as he could in Penasco, Chamisal and Pilar.  He loved the outdoors and enjoyed working the land.  Alfonso was a dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend.  Alfonso was a proud Veteran of the United States Army, whom served his country during World War II.  He was a chef by trade and worked for the Veteran's Hospital till he retired in 1977.  He spent some years with his wife's help providing a home and care for five elders.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Domingo and Pilar Vigil; brother, Jose Modesto Vigil; aunts, Nativida, Amalia, and Nativida V. Ortega; uncles, Prudencio Enrique, and Jose Vigil; his father and mother-in-law, Joe Paz and Leonarda Lopez; eight sisters-in-law; six brothers-in-law; and several nephews and nieces.  Alfonso is survived by his loving daughter, Yvonne Salazar and husband Jose; grandchildren, Joseph and Jessica; great-grandson, Joey; and four great-great-grandchildren.  Also surviving are his sister-in-law, Sylvia Vigil; nieces, Marie Vigil, Becky Rodriguez (Tom), Hazel Vigil, Janice Salazar, and Carmela Bueno (Patrick); in-laws from the Lopez family include, Alice Lopez, Betty Arrant, Rose Gonzales, Namoi Elizondo (Juan), Bella Armijo (Valerio), Jose Paz Lopez, Jr. (Eulogia), Paul Lopez (Teresa), Leroy Lopez (Valentina); several cousins, numerous, nephews, nieces, great nephews and nieces from both the Vigil and Lopez Families.  Alfonso will be greatly missed by all.
Visitation will be Tuesday, October 20, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Daniels Family Funeral Services - Alameda Mortuary, 9420 Fourth St., NW, in Albuquerque, followed by a Rosary at 7:00 p.m.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 619 Copper Ave., NW.   Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 12:45 p.m.  Casket Bearers will be Leonard Armijo, Joey Vigil, Jack Vigil, Fabian Vigil, and Benjamin Dominguez, III.  Honorary Bearers will be Rebecca Vigil Rodriguez, Ben Dominguez, Jr. and Loretta Lopez.
