The stars in the heavens brightened on January 13, 2026 as Carol Nystrom was called home. She was known to many as Carol Forbes, Carol Joyce, CJ, Grandma Sweetheart; and as a sister, mother, teacher and friend.

In a life spanning nine decades she brought joy to many, but especially the family she leaves behind: her daughters, Dana and Shari; her grandsons, Matthew and Michael; her brother, Lawrence; and many extended family, including her son-in-law, sister-in-law, nephews, nieces, and friends who loved her like family.

Her hands were rarely still…. knitting blankets, scarves and Dana’s beloved coat. The blankets are treasured by many, becoming family heirlooms to be passed on to generations of children all over the United States.

Carol’s journey touched many lives. She had a gift of making people feel seen and safe, offering counsel and encouragement to anyone who needed it. Many credit Carol for helping them through the toughest times of their lives, and for healing their lifelong emotional wounds.

She was the beloved daughter of Wally and Joyce Forbes, born in New Kensington, Pennsylvania on October 9th 1938. She married Charles Nystrom in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and they raised Dana and Shari in a home filled with love and joy. She was blessed with Matthew and Michael, who adored their Grandma Sweetheart, inheriting her fondness of crystals and her incredibly positive outlook on life. After a few decades in Buffalo and Orlando, she moved to Albuquerque, a city she loved because of the breathtaking vistas, amazing people and spiritual culture.
