Donna Marie [Danenhower] Wylie, born on September 26th, 1948, in Champaign, Illinois, passed away peacefully at her home in Corrales, New Mexico. She was the daughter of Leonard and Theresa Danenhower. Donna's journey began in Champaign, where she spent her formative years. In 1968, she made the bold move to Albuquerque and, while working at JB's Restaurant and Lounge, pursued her education at the University of New Mexico, earning a 4-year undergraduate degree.
Donna's life took a new chapter in 1972 when she married James Alan Wylie and moved to Corrales, where she resided until her passing. She was the mother of Matthew Wylie. Undeterred by the challenges of balancing family, work, and education, Donna returned to UNM and achieved two Master's Degrees. Her dedication and passion led her to a remarkable career at Sandoval County, where she served for 20 years, culminating in her retirement as the Director of Tourism and Economic Development in 2014.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Theresa, and her sister, Carolyn McCullough. She is survived by her son, Matthew Wylie, wife Laura, and their two children, Chase age 14 and Reese age 11 of Albuquerque, her brothers, Renard Danenhower, wife Becky, of Phoenix, Arizona, and Gary Danenhower of Champaign, Illinois, a stepdaughter, Tracey Jean Wylie of Ft. Worth, Texas, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Donna's extended family includes her partner of 35 years, Donnie Leonard, and three children: Tracy Leonard, wife Jeannie, of Castle Rock, Colorado, Travis Leonard of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Trisha Leonard-Trancosa, husband Frankie, of Albuquerque. Donna also cherished her 13 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Donna and Donnie shared a remarkable bond, celebrating 35 years, 3 months, and 29 days of love and companionship. They considered themselves fortunate to have found each other and appreciated every moment together. Donna leaves behind a legacy of enduring friendships, including her cousin Patty Ann and husband Randy Swim of Champaign, Illinois.
Donna was a woman of diverse interests and a committed community volunteer. She was passionate about horses, enjoying rides with friends, and embraced activities like skiing, dancing, and traveling. Her Corrales home was a testament to her love for a great yard and the community. Donna actively contributed her time to various organizations, such as the Corrales Library construction, Friends of Corrales Library board, Corrales Firemen's Ball fundraiser committee, Corrales Main Street, American Red Cross board, Junior League of Albuquerque, and Advisory Committee for Rust Hospital.
Donna will be remembered for her unwavering dedication to her community, her love for her family, and the joy she found in every moment of life. Her legacy will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her.
