Gary Jacquez

June 23, 1967 — May 4, 2019

It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to Gary Jacquez.  Gary was born in Albuquerque, NM, on June 23rd, 1967 to become the adored and youngest member of the family.  Gary is deeply loved by, and survived by his parents, Joe and Angela Jacquez.  He leaves behind his son Joshua, whom he will watch over from Heaven.  He also leaves his brother Joey, sisters Sharon Sanders (Gary) and Carol Sutherland (Travis), ex-wife, Nicole Sanchez, Lydia De La O, whom he helped to raise as a young girl, and numerous family members and friends.  He was lovingly welcomed into Heaven by his sister Suzanne, sister-in-law, Rene Roybal, and nephew, Sean Good.  Very shortly after joining them, he greeted his beautiful sister Christine Mondragon at the gates of Heaven, wearing a big smile and his Dallas Cowboys jersey.

Gary, a member of the Rio Grande High School class of 1985, had talents and interests that ranged widely.  He was a recognized, outstanding baseball player in his youth.  He was a jack-of-all-trades, and could fix anything that was broken, and would do so for anyone who needed help.  You’d know that he’d fixed it with love.  He enjoyed cooking, and loved to make New Mexican food, but he was also very happy with a bottomless bowl of honey smacks cereal, and he never turned down a piece of cherry cheesecake.  He was the kind of guy who loved all kinds of animals, especially dogs, and was also a lover of Classic Rock music.  He had hazel eyes that smiled with a loving warmth, and any tears, whether of joy or sadness only made them seem greener.  His genuine smile and hearty laugh made you feel comfortable.  He was a kind and gentle soul who had a certain way about him, an authentic “coolness” that was just natural to him.

The best thing in Gary’s life was Joshua, and the best of time was time spent with him.  Joshua was the truest and greatest love of his life.  Gary took great joy in showing him the world, whether it was walking along the Rio Grande River Bosque, searching for bugs and animals at the mesa, bike riding, fishing, or many of the other things they did together.  They were the best of pals.
