Obituary

Genevieve "Gena" Montano was called home on Thursday, February 12, 2026, surrounded by the unwavering love of her family. She was a cherished daughter, sister, mother, and grandmother whose vibrant spirit filled every room she entered. Her laughter was unforgettable, her presence magnetic, and her love fierce and unwavering. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Manuel and Adelina Montano; her maternal grandparents, Ezequiel and Juanita Quintana; and her beloved younger sister, Brianna Montano.

Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on June 10th, 1980, Gena was raised in Bernalillo, where her strong roots and deep devotion to family were formed. She was the treasured daughter of Arthur and Pinky Montano. Gena was known for her boisterous laugh, her generous heart, and the way she made everyone around her feel seen and cared for. She found joy in cooking meals that gathered her loved ones around the table, in searching for the perfect shopping find, and in caring for her family in countless ways both big and small. Loving her family was not just something she did. It was who she was.

Gena attended Bernalillo High School and later graduated from Independence High School. She continued her education at CNM, earning her certification in Phlebotomy and beginning her career in the medical field. She later transitioned into customer service, working for many years managing financial accounts for the military through a third party. When her health began to decline and no longer allowed her to continue working, she made the selfless decision to devote herself fully to her children, pouring her strength and love into her home.

She leaves behind her three beloved sons, Eric Sanchez, Emilio Romero and Abel Romero; her treasured grandsons, Sebastian and Oscar Sanchez; her devoted parents, Art and Pinky Montano; her sister, Heather Montano; her nephew, Damion Montano; her niece, Savannah Alderete; her great-nephew, Azrael Montano; along with many uncles, aunts, cousins, and dear friends. Though her time here was far too short, the love she gave so freely will live on in each of them. Her strength, her laughter, and her unforgettable spirit will continue to echo in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
