George Gabaldon

July 14, 1932 -March 25, 2023

George Gabaldon, age 90, of Bernalillo, New Mexico and formerly of San Luis, New Mexico passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on March 25, 2023.

His family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to all relatives and friends who were so supportive during this difficult time.

George was the son of Antonio and Angelita Gabaldon. After losing his father at age 13 he was then raised by his step-father, Filomeno Lucero.  He married Consuelo (Connie) Baca in 1952 and just recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. Their love for each other was immeasurable and they were inseparable. They simply accompanied each other everywhere life took them. Together they had nine children, Pat Gabaldon (Diana), Paul Gabaldon (Roberta), Christine Gallegos, Carolyn Gabaldon (deceased), Armella Gabaldon, Olivia Saiz, George Gabaldon (Kathleen), Roberta Gabaldon, and Arnold Gabaldon (Lorraine). George and Connie also raised their adopted grandchildren, Jason Gabaldon and Melanie Wiggins (Ernest), children of Carolyn.  They had 18 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Joe, Veronica, and Tony, as well as his daughter Carolyn, who he adored.

He proudly served his country while in the army and during the Korean War from 1952 to 1956.  He was a member of the Veterans of  Foreign Wars and was a devout Catholic and serving member of The Knights of Columbus at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Bernalillo.

George drew a smile everywhere he went and if you were fortunate to have known him, he made it a point to make you feel important and loved. He was well known and also a loyal friend throughout the surrounding pueblos.  He was also known to be the hardest worker sometimes working three jobs at a time. He was employed in the metal, steel and lumber industries as a reputable skilled welder but his livelihood and love were working his cattle ranch in San Luis, New Mexico where he grew up as a child. He was also a musician and singer in various bands as a young adult. Later interests and pastimes throughout his life included the senior centers and all they offered including dances and field trips and frequenting surrounding casinos where he seemed to always have good luck.

George will be missed immensely by all that knew and loved him. He was a devoted husband, father, grand-father, brother, uncle and friend.
