Jason Paul Cockrell, born on February 23, 2004, in Farmington, New Mexico, to Pamela and Timothy Cockrell. He left this world far too soon on May 3, 2025, in Hokkaido, Japan. A proud member of the United States Marine Corps, Jason joined the service in 2022 and achieved the rank of Corporal while stationed at Camp Hansen in Okinawa, Japan. Jason received a National Defense Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, and Korea Defense Service Medal. His dedication to his military service reflected the driven and smart individual that he was, showcasing his commitment to both his country and personal growth.
Educated at Cleveland High School in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, Jason graduated in 2022, where he was a beloved member of the school community. He made lasting memories on the football field, excelled in track, and demonstrated leadership skills as part of the J.R.O.T.C. His passion for trying new challenges was evident in all areas of his life, from academics to athletics.
Jason was not just defined by his accomplishments but by the love he shared with his family and friends. He was a cherished grandson, son, brother, uncle, and friend. He is survived by his parents Jimmy and Frances Martin. He leaves behind a brother Nathan Cockrell, sister-in-law Elizabeth Cockrell, beloved nephew Colton Cockrell, and birth parents Timothy Cockrell and Pamela Cockrell. Additionally Jason is mourned by numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins who will remember him fondly for his dependable nature and spirited personality.
An adventurous soul, Jason had a profound love for the outdoors. He found joy in the mountains, snowboarding, hiking, and fishing—although he would often joke about his reluctance to clean the fish he would catch. Soccer was another passion of his in his younger years, further demonstrating his active spirit and zest for life.
His presence brightened the lives of many, and his memory will continue to inspire those fortunate enough to have known him. Jason Paul Cockrell will be lovingly remembered, and his adventurous spirit will live on in the hearts of family and friends.
