John Bertrand

John W. Bertrand, 81 passed away Thursday evening.  He was born in Menominee, MI, and grew up in Duluth, Minnesota.  He graduated from Wartburg College in Waverly, IA.

John was a social worker for his entire career, serving the Association for Retarded Children in Minnesota, New Jersey, and New York as well as the Manhattan Office of Vocational Rehabilitation.  The Bertrands lived in Metuchen, NJ, for forty years where John was elected to the town council for three three-year terms serving as council president and police commissioner.  John was very much involved in his children's lives as coach, advisor, and chaperone, especially with the high school band.  The Bertrands have lived in Albuquerque since 2003.  John was an active member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church and two philatelic organizations.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Carol; four children and their spouses: John and Terri Bertrand of Albuquerque; Sue and Ed Lincoln of Edison, NJ; Mary and Jim Garbrecht of Mundelein, IL; and Michael and Nanette Bertrand of Strasburg, PA; 12 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of John's life will be held Saturday, July 9, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 6901 Wyoming Blvd., NE, Albuquerque, NM 87109.
