It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Maria Rita Gutierrez-Carpenter (Ritz) on July 1st, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Maria was born on May 1st, 1945 in Albuquerque. She is survived by her son, Michael, step-daughters Kathleen and Carolee, brother Ernest, brother Florencio, sister Lottie, best friend/sister Nellie, as well as several special nieces and nephews, and special great-great niece (Bella). She is preceded in death by husband Gary, mother Ernestina, father Willie, brother Bobby, and brother Billy.

Ritz loved going to the Casino, playing Bingo, playing cards, watching golf and tennis. She loved watching hot air balloons from her back yard during Balloon Fiesta. Ritz was devoted to her family, and loved attending family gatherings and sporting events.

Services will be held on Friday, July 17th at 8 AM at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Albuquerque. Burial to follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.

Auntie Ritz will be deeply missed by all who loved her dearly.
