January 1, 1928 — November 3, 2016

Martha M. Mata, 88, born January 2, 1928, a lifelong resident of Alameda, passed away peacefully at home on November 3, 2016.

Martha is survived by her loving children, Robert and Larry Mata, Sandra Martinez and her husband Toby all of Albuquerque, NM, Jake Haskin and his wife Pamela of Portland, OR; grandchildren, Tobias Martinez,  Bonjean, Devon; great-grandchildren, Vanessa, Jalen, Mariah, Elena, Conner, and Iain; great-great-grandchildren, Nevaeh, Ida, Aliyah, and Emma; ex-daughter-in-law, Teresa Mata; and many nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends.

Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Mata; parents, Gregorio and Cruzita Abeyta; siblings, Beatrice Miera, Geno Young, Roy Abeyta, Faye Spencer, Delia Brisky, Sophie Abeyta, and Shil Meyer.

Martha loved people, music and dancing, and spent many years with her friends at the American Legion Post 69.  Martha attended Business School in Albuquerque where she met the love of her life, Frank.  They were married for 57 years.  She was a secretary for 40 years working in the insurance industry, American Furniture, APS, and J.C Penney.  She never met a person she didn't like and extended a smile to all.  She was a great cook, and was best known for her red chile, tamales and posole.  She always had a song in her heart and especially loved to sing Church hymns in Latin.

Our mamacita was a blessing to us and all who knew her with her kindness, her sense of humor, her happiness and her love.  We feel proud and blessed to have had her in our lives and to have called her our mother.  We will deeply miss her.

The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at Presbyterian Hospice, Brenda, Susie, Janet, Julia, Tonya, and Patsy.
