Martina Chavez

Martina G. Chavez, age 94, beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away peacefully Saturday, June 9, 2018, while surrounded by her loving family.  Martina was born on March 25, 1924 in Cuba, NM to late Pablo and Candelaria Gonzales, and was a resident of Bernalillo, NM.  Martina was the seventh child out of 13 Children; the Gonzales family moved to Bernalillo, NM when she was 13 years old. Later married the late Frank L. Chavez in 1953, and together they had three children, Orlando “Chubby” Chavez, Frank (Ankie) A Chavez Jr. and Cruzita M. Chavez; seven grandchildren; and ten great- grandchildren.

Martina was a cook for the Bernalillo Public Schools for eight years; and enjoyed cooking for her friends and family. When she wasn’t cooking for friends and family you could find her at the casino or outside taking care of her flowers.  She lived a simple, loving and Faithful life, always putting the Lord first and trusting in HIM. She will be greatly missed by family, friends, nieces, nephews and neighbors.

Visitations will be Thursday, June 14, 2018 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. at the Santuario de San Lorenzo, located next to Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 301 Camino de Pueblo, Bernalillo, NM; where a Rosary will be recited at 10:15 a.m., followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m.  Interment will take place at Our Lady of Sorrows Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Aaron Chavez, Ryan Chavez, Robby Chavez, Daniel Chavez, Brian Hartley, Rey Gonzales and Robert Romero.
