Obituary

Oniva Maria Neal, age 81, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2026, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Born on January 26th, 1944, in Chama, New Mexico, she lived a life rooted in love for her family, creativity, and community.

Oniva was the daughter of Jose D. Archuleta and Dorotea Archuleta. She grew up in Chama and graduated from Chama Valley High School. Her early years in Northern New Mexico shaped her enduring appreciation for tradition and family values.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles Mike Neal; her parents; and her sisters Gloria Pummel, Belen Montoya, and Charlotte Jordan. Their memories remained close to her heart throughout her life.

A devoted mother and grandmother, Oniva is lovingly remembered by her son, Christopher Neal, and daughter, Annie Lori Marquez; granddaughter, Christina Neal; grandsons, Anthony Marquez and Cody Neal; great-grandson, Evern Neal; and sister, Mary Ellen Bazan. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who cherished her presence in their lives.

Oniva had a deep passion for arts and crafts, often creating beautiful pieces that reflected both her talent and the warmth of her spirit. She found joy in cheering for her favorite football team, the Dallas Cowboys, and rarely missed a game. Above all else, she treasured time spent with her children and grandchildren, creating lasting memories filled with laughter and love.

She, along with her husband, was the proud owner of Tres Alamos Traders, where she shared her artistic vision through handcrafted goods that celebrated the culture of the Southwest.

May Oniva’s memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her. Her legacy lives on through the family she nurtured and the beauty she brought into the world. A rosary and mass will be held on January 29th, 2026, starting at 10:30 am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 1860 Griegos Rd NW.

Pallbearers will be Anthony Marquez and Cameo Griego.
