Pat “Nerky” Ernesto Romero

Pat Ernesto Romero, affectionately known as “Nerky” to his family and friends, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2026, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, at the age of 66. He was born on November 27, 1959 in Albuquerque to Ernesto and Frances Romero.

Pat made his home in Cuba, New Mexico, where he built a life filled with family, hard work, laughter, and countless memories. A skilled carpenter who worked side by side with his boys for many years, Pat was proud of their work and was never afraid to get his hands dirty. He had a gift for working with his hands and creating things that would stand the test of time.

Those who knew Pat would describe him as fun, stubborn, loving, and kind. He had a personality that could make people laugh, and his stubborn streak was simply part of what made him Nerky. Beneath it all was a big heart and a deep love for the people who mattered most to him.

Pat was a devoted father and a proud grandfather. He is survived by his sons, Ernesto (Miranda) and Patricio (Amanda), his brother Adolph (Eloyda), and his sisters Josie (Toby), Rosie, Barbara, Donna (Phil), Judy (Ron Jay), and half sister Tommie, 5 grandchildren and an abundance of nieces and nephews.

His grandchildren held a very special place in his heart: DeAngelo Padilla, Josiah Salazar, Aubryanna Romero, Sariah Romero, and Baby Boy Romero.

One of the things Pat was most looking forward to was meeting his newest grandson. He was so excited to meet his baby grandson, and that excitement is a memory his family will hold especially close to their hearts. Although he did not get the chance to hold him, the love and anticipation Pat had for him will forever be part of their family’s story.

Pat was preceded in death by his parents, Ernesto and Frances, and his half-sister, Evelyn.

Pat leaves behind more than memories. He leaves behind pieces of himself in the people he loved, the lessons he taught, the laughter he shared, and the work of his hands. His family will remember his stubbornness that could make them shake their heads and smile, his humor that could brighten a room, and most of all, the love and kindness he showed in his own way.

His absence will be deeply felt at family gatherings, in the quiet moments, and in all the milestones he was supposed to be here to see. But his family will carry him with them—in stories, in laughter, in memories, and in the love that will continue through the generations.

Nerky, you were loved more than words can say. You will be missed more than you could ever know. And you will never be forgotten.

Rest easy, Nerky. Until we meet again.

Burial will immediately follow the Mass at the Catholic Cemetery in Cuba.

A private reception for immediate family will follow the burial.
