Patricio Torres

April 1, 1947 — November 16, 2023

With a deep sadness we announce that our hero, Patricio Torres, passed away on November 16th at home surrounded by those he loved after a hard fought battle against prostate cancer. Born in Hot Springs, NM to Carpio and Josefa Torres and later moved to Fort Bayard, NM where he would spend most of his childhood. He attended Cobre High School before moving with his family to Albuquerque, NM where he would graduate from Rio Grande High School in 1966. After graduation he enlisted with United States Marine Corps where he completed two tours of duty during the Vietnam War. While stationed at Camp Pendleton he met his future wife, Eloisa, and her son Salvador, whom he adopted and took in as his own. Once he was honorably discharged from the Marines they stayed in California for a little while before moving back to Albuquerque and settling down in the south valley to raise their family. Patricio was a man of many skills and talents but what he enjoyed the most was being with his family and going out camping and hunting with his cousins. He loved the outdoors and would jump at any opportunity to be out there, no matter if it was for a hunt, to be the camp cook or just out for the ride. There is nothing Patricio wouldn’t do for those that he loved. Just as long as you were on time and ready to have breakfast first! There wasn’t a place we would go without him knowing someone and that shows how much of an impression he left on everyone he met. He was a man that told you exactly what he thought and how it should be done! His stories, true or not, were endless and proved how much life he lived in his 76 years on this earth!

Patricio is preceded in death by his parents Carpio and Josefa Torres, infant brother Robert, sister Catalina, daughter Patricia Lucero and faithful dog Izzy. He is survived by his son Salvador Torres, daughter Maria Torres and partner Joseph Vigil, daughter Emma Diaz and husband Ramon Diaz, sister Carla Bowling and husband Sam Bowling; grandchildren Cirilo Torres, Salvador Torres, Emaly Torres, Alex Lucero, Robert Lucero, Michael Lucero, Diego Diaz, Caliana Diaz, Robert George, Uriah Vigil, Olivia Vigil and Elijah Vigil; great-grandchildren Jayden Lucero, Lola Lucero and Prince Eden Torres; nephews Steven Bowling and Patrick Bowling. He will also be remembered by the many family members and friends that always took time out of their day to check in on him!

Patricio’s strength is like no other and he proved that throughout his treatment journey and it showed to the very end. He will always be remembered for his sense of humor, quick wit, master of crossword and cryptoquip puzzles, a proud Marine and for the love he had for his family! This world will be a little less brighter since he left but the love he left will remain forever.

May you rest in peace, free of pain and give hugs to Grandpo, Grandma, Mom, Trish and Izzy for us! Love and miss you always!

The family would like to thank Dr. Hashemi and the oncology staff at the UNM Cancer Center for their care and support throughout his cancer battle and the staff with Roadrunner Hospice. Even though he only had a few short days in hospice, the support they gave was tremendous, especially from the hospice nurses JT and Felicia. Thank you for your kindness!
