Ramoncita Casaus was born in Rio Puerco, NM on November 3, 1929 the first child of Tranquilino and Lupita Chavez. She died at home on February 9, 2019. She held a number of jobs throughout her life. She was never afraid of hard work. She worked on the family farm, helped her husband build their first home together, and to help support her family, she worked at various laundries, and took in ironing. Her favorite work was caring for others, both children and the elderly. She worked many years, not retiring until she was eighty years old.
Growing things brought her great joy. She loved her flowers, her garden, and her fruit trees. I don't think she ever had a plant that did not thrive in her care. Each year she would put away preserves from her apricot, cherry, and plum trees. When visitors would come by, they would get treated to her homemade preserves. She had a very strong faith and was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in Albuquerque since 1961. She was always diligent with her prayers. Her rosary and prayer book were always on her nightstand. She taught all of her kids to say their prayers every night and encouraged them to be good Christians. In her later years she was challenged by poor health. This in no way diminished her positive outlook and enjoyment of life. Her family was always in her heart whether they were close by or far away. If you were ever lucky enough to be invited into her home, you were greeted with her winning smile, sparkling eyes, a full plate, and an overwhelming sense of love. Though she is gone we will carry with us her loving and generous ways as well as her many life lessons.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Juan, her daughter, Casie, and her brothers Joe and Ermando Chavez.
She is survived by her siblings, Margaret Jacquez, Jeanne Chavez, Johnny Chavez, and Susan and Ray Sisneros. Also surviving are her sisters-in-law, Pepe and Minnie Chavez; her children, Estrella and George Dulleck, Crist Casaus, MaryAnn and Rick Clayson, and Juanita and Don Gonzales; her grandchildren, John Casaus, Dawn and Jonathan Andujo, Richard Clayson, and Kelly and Tyler Miller; her great-grandchildren, Christian Casaus-Cruz, Jasmine and Savannah Slawski, Aiden Miller, and Jonathan Andujo, Jr.
