Sylveria Apodaca

January 22, 1922 — February 23, 2018

Sylveria Apodaca, went home to be with our Lord and Savior on Friday, February 23, 2018, while surrounded by her loving family.  She was born in Alameda, NM on January 22, 1922 to the late Abel and Gertrude Lucero.  She was one of nine children raised in a home off Guadalupe Trail in Alameda.  On August 11, 1945 she married Joseph Apodaca at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Alameda, NM and they were married for 48 years.  Sylveria was a devout Catholic and continued to be a member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church and a member of The Blue Army.

She was an avid Gardner in her home with numerous rows of fruits and vegetables growing every year.  She especially loved growing flowers, taking care of her home, always tackling home repairs and remodeling projects and cooking and baking.  Although Sylveria and Joseph didn't have children of their own, they were blessed with a multitude of nieces and nephews who spent time visiting and living with them as they were growing up.  Many of who cared for and watched over her in her later years.

Sylveria had a special love for all her nieces and nephews and always enjoyed when they were visiting and spending time in her home.  Her heart was full of joy when they were there with her.   In her later years she continued to pray and help others selflessly.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Apodaca; her siblings, Elvira Garcia, Eloisa Griego, Lucinda Rocco, Rosa Jaramillo, Domitilla Saavedra, Merlinda Bazan and Fidel Lucero.

Sylveria is survived by her loving sister, Mary Lovato who is the last surviving sibling; nephew, James Lovato who was her care taker and constant companion who tended to her daily needs;  in addition to 22 more nephew and nieces; and countless great nephews and nieces.  Sylveria will be greatly missed by her loving family and by those whose lives she touched.

Visitation will be Monday, March 5, 2018 from 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 9502 Fourth St., NW, Albuquerque, where a Rosary will be recited at 8:00 a.m. then followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 a.m.  Interment will be at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 11:15 a.m.  Casket Bearers will be Jerry Garcia, James Lovato, Paul Lovato, Jason Perez, Alex Bazan, and Marcos Trujillo.
