Viola R. Barela, age 91, beloved mother, grandmother, and sister was embraced by our Lord Jesus Monday, February 26, 2018, and taken to her heavenly home. She was born and raised in Corrales, NM and was a resident of Albuquerque. Viola was an artist, oil painter; she was creative in the areas of crochet, embroidery, knitting, expert seamstress and a gourmet cook; and love spending time with her loving family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jose Guadalupe and Hortensia Rivera; her husband, Robert S. Barela; and siblings, Lillie Chavez and Joe Lee Rivera.
Viola is survived by her loving daughter, Patricia Barela-Rivera of Denver, CO.; her precious grandson, Rob J. Neutzling; and her eldest sister, Roselia Trujillo. Viola will be greatly missed by her loving family and by those whose lives she touched.
A Rosary will be recited Friday, March 2, 2018 at 8:00 a.m. at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 9502 Fourth St., NW, Albuquerque, where the Mass of Christian Burial will celebrated at 9:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Casket Bearers will be Pete Salazar, Mark Lobato, Eric Maberry, Michael Chavez, Daniel Valdez, and Rob Neutzling.
