Viviana Bourguignon Anaya

5-21-32 to 2-9-24

Born in Socorro, New Mexico

Preceded in death by her mother, Maria Chavez, and father, Emilio Jojola; husbands Louis Bourguignon, Arcino Sanchez, and Miramon Anaya; sons Phillip, Louie, and Anthony; daughter-in-law Carmen; brothers Robert and Emilio Jojola; sisters Diosinita Chavez, Emma Padilla, and Selfita Lucero.

She is survived by her sister Rosemary Lopez; children Sandra and husband Reynold Serna, George Bourguignon, and Marie and husband Bill Sullivan; Grandchildren Julie Parras, Renee and husband Richard Torres, Anthony Serna, Antoinette and wife Lacy Bourguignon, Chad and wife Rebecca Sullivan, Chelsea and husband AJ Morrison, and Christy Sullivan; 13 great grandchildren; and nine great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

My mother was a beautiful, strong and courageous woman.  She moved to San Francisco with her family for a short time and at a very young age was entrusted with cashing the paychecks for her father and uncles including stopping to buy wine for them to enjoy.  Upon returning to Socorro, she worked as a waitress.

She married and had six children.  She was very active in their lives.  From President of the PTA, to Boyscouts, to Bluebirds, and school band; and at her Catholic Church, supporting her sons as Alter boys.  She still found time to learn cake decorating and tile art.

She began working as a volunteer at the health department walking door to door to introduce health options to the women in the neighborhood.  She was soon hired full time and before long became Clinic Coordinator at several

Clinics before retiring.

She travelled to Germany, Washington DC, and through the states of Hawaii, California, Idaho, Oregon, Washington, and Nevada.  But our trips to Socorro were the best.  The best place on the planet where we were always welcomed with the open arms of love and hospitality from Auntie Josie, Uncle Bernardo and the family. Auntie Josie always prepared a feast.

She provided for the household not only through her paychecks but also through bartering whether it be grapes from the Gaylord vineyard or apples and pears from the Chavez orchard.  Her and Auntie Rosie knew the bargains and weekly would bring home a carload of bread and snacks for both families.

Family was most important and always came first.  She attended baseball, volleyball, and football games, wrestling matches and concerts.  If she was able, she would be there to cheer for her family.

She was not only the best mother and grandmother to us but a mother to all who walked through the doors of our home from the Chavez's, Mares', Abeyta's, Serna's, to the Gaylord's.  She always seemed to know the needs of those around her from Jackets to food.  Even the homeless man she passed each morning had a burrito ready for his breakfast.  There was no one beyond her grasp of love and all became her family.  She truly had the gift of love.  Her generosity and compassion are the greatest legacy she leaves for all she knew and encountered.

Her favorite pastimes were dancing, cooking, antiquing with her sister Rosemary in California, and the casinos.  She enjoyed the buffets and gambling.  She said it was her stress reliever.

Special thanks to Jenny, Monica, and all the staff of Legacy Hospice.

May she now rest in peace.
