Clodovio "Claude" Herrera

December 7, 2021

On Tuesday, December 7, 2021, Clodovio “Claude” Herrera, kind and loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and all-around extraordinary human, passed away at the age of 86.

Claude was born in 1935 in Juan Tomas, NM to Ygnacio and Aurelia Herrera. After graduating from Moriarty high school, Claude enlisted in the US Army and later attended UNM.  In 1963, he married his high school sweetheart, Mary-Alice. Together, they raised two sons, Steven and Paul Edwin, and a daughter, Pamela.

Claude was a letter carrier, by profession, for almost 40 years. He was a steadfast supporter of the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC). He served as a union steward, a trustee, and a board member for the organization. Claude was a certified tax preparer, which he thoroughly enjoyed.  He happily shared his expertise to help anyone in need. Claude loved to travel, explore different cultures, and sightsee.  Whether a quick road trip to Carlsbad Caverns, one of many NALC conventions, or a luxury cruise, Claude was happiest when he was travelling with his favorite person, Mary-Alice.

Claude led an active life and maintained a passion for sports and remained an exceptionally loyal fan of the Moriarty High School Pintos for nearly 70 years.  Many considered Claude the Pintos’ #1 fan.  He also loved gardening and art. He created an extraordinary and whimsical backyard oasis at the family home, which was much admired not only by friends and family, but also by all who visited the Herrera household. He was also an avid reader, a word puzzle whiz, and certified math nerd.  He was known for his quick wit, his infectious smile, and his kind and compassionate spirit. Our beloved patriarch, Veijito, Dad, and Grampsy will be profoundly and forever missed.

Claude was preceded in death by his father, Ygnacio, his mother, Aurelia, and his son Steven. He is survived by his best friend and the love of his life, wife Mary-Alice, his children, Paul Edwin, and Pamela, his grandsons, Dominik and Alex, his great granddaughter, London, his great grandsons, Karson and Kade, sister Dora, and several nieces, and nephews.
