Maria de Carmen Sandoval

April 10, 1940 — May 8, 2020

On Friday, May 8, 2020, heaven got a little fuller when Maria del Carmen Sandoval checked in.  She passed away warm and comfortable in her home and surrounded by family.  To many who had the joy of knowing Carmen, her memory is illustrated by her embrace of many roles in life:   loving mother, sister, aunt, friend, and, of course, the culmination of them all, “Tita”.  Tita was born on April 10, 1940, in the state of Durango, Mexico, to Joaquin and Victoria Sandoval.  She grew up to be an adored elementary school teacher and touched the lives of many students while living in Mexico.  Holding to the promise that her children would have a better life, with more opportunities, she left behind her family and the home she knew and bravely immigrated to the United States in 1966.  While holding true to her roots, culture, and language, she raised her daughter Teresa and son Ignacio and worked hard to provide them with everything they needed.  She retired from Levis Strauss, became a U.S. citizen, and was a prominent member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish throughout her life.

Tita was preceded in death by her father, mother, brothers Jesus, Enrique, and Joaquin, and son Ignacio.  She is survived by her sisters, Esperanza, Beatriz, Guillermina; brothers, Marco Antonio and Jorge; daughter, Teresa and husband Martin; her grandchildren Daniel and wife Tierza, Mónica, Adriana, and Gabriela; her great-grandchildren,  Alonzo and Ezra; and many nieces and nephews.

Each time we bid farewell to Tita with an “Ay nos vemos,” she would reply with “Si Dios quiere.” “God willing,” a saying that represented how her entire life was shaped by her faith in Christ and that her legacy will be carried on by how she lived and spread it.  So with a final “Ay nos vemos, Tita,” we can say with hope and faith like hers that we will see her again someday, “Si Dios quiere.”

Services will be conducted at a later date.
